“Are you nervous Jaweria” Isabella asked me.” Of course not” I said trying to hide that I was actually really nervous. All of Gri11 got onto the bus and the bus driver started driving us to the Dransfields farm.I glared out the window most of the time on the trip to the farm.”Finally” I said after what felt like forever.Everyone got off the bus and walked up the hill. I threw my bag onto the tarpaulin and then took a seat.Soon it was time for our race.”Year six girls go with Mr Smith to the starting line” Mrs Langley yelled in her usual loud voice. All the year six girls (including me) went to the starting line.I trudged down the hill to where the race start is supposed to start.”Ready, steady go” Mr Bell shouted on the top of his lungs while shooting the gun in the air.(Don’t worry,it wasn’t actually a real gun, well at least that’s what the teachers said.)And off all the girls sprinted up the hill.”Wait up Tiaki, wait for meee” I hauled.Tiaki and Isabella raced ahead of me and were already on the path to the next hill.I ran and ran and kept running until I got up the second hill. When I was up there I just started walking because I was too exhausted.(I probably know what you’re thinking that I’m tired and it is only like been 50 metres or something but running is really hard.)’Holey cow!’ I yelled (in my head so no one could hear it except me),There is still such a long, long way’.
I kept on running and I found myself at the bottom of another hill. There was mud all around and you had to go through it.”O.M.G”,”I hate cross country” I heard some other girls say.I didn’t even bother. We had to go through anyway so why should I make a big scene out of it.Well then you know what happens next, my shoes got muddy but I still kept on going. After I went past I saw the big one.I mean the big hill. The hill was really big and steep. There was a tractor on the grass next to the start of the hill.”Come on girls!” The kind lady cheered us on.I took a small glimpse at her then started running (jogging) again.A few people passed me as I walked down the grass.
Then out of the corner of my eye I saw Mr Robertson taking photos and cheering out,”Come on hurry up,we don’t have all day!”I ran quickly so Mr Robertson couldn’t take a photo of me but I’m pretty sure he did.Next came the horse poo and pee hill. The whole hill was covered with horse poo and pee.It was by far the most smelliest thing I have ever smelled. The hill was so smelly that the mayor of Auckland called and complained about the smell.I went up the hill like I was a brave soldier but I wasn’t.After the horse poo hill came the horse poo pit.The horse poo pit was a big piece of land with horse poo all over and around it.”Good job girls, keep on going you have to go through the poo and you can not take a short cut” Mr Healy cheered the girls on with a smirk on his face.I stared at him with squinty eyes then got back on the track to the finish line.I tried going through it really fast but I nearly fell over so I just took it slow and steadily.”Yay” I muttered under my breath, while I ran past Mr Healy.I stopped for a second to catch my breath then I was off again.
“The finish line is nearly here girls” a woman shouted for support.I sprinted straight past her and headed for the finish.I kept jogging and found myself in the little forest.I jogged down the hill and walked up the other side.I saw all the rest of the participants that had finished their races on the side waiting for everyone else to finish so we could go back to school. As soon as I saw Miss Holder at the finish line, I gave in all the power left in me.As I passed the finish line, I burst.I was so glad that I was finished.I had never ever been happier.Later on when all the teahers and racers were back, the buses started arriving so everyone went back to school. On the way back to school, I talked to Isabella the whole time about my experience of cross country. The time flew as we were in the bus because we were already at school in a few minutes.”I never want to do cross country again” I told Isabella,”I’m so glad it is over because now I can go home after school and relax.”
